Meet The Model: The Private Stock 30th Anniversary Dragon
Posted Apr 15, 2015
At first glance you may not realize that the Private Stock 30th Anniversary Dragon is constructed with over 285 pieces of inlay! The material, comprised most prominently of jade, azurite, lapis, pyrite, abalone, and mother of pearl, is placed in the routed guitar body by hand. The inlay process is so involved that we elicit the help of our friends over at Aulson Inlay. With Aulson’s knowledge and experience we were able to create this museum quality instrument that is as fun to look at as it is to play.
Before Aulson receives the body for inlay work, we have hand selected the maple top and mahogany back as well as carved the wood to shape.
Check out these photos of the Dragon guitar inlay process, courtesy of Aulson.
After the inlay is placed in the guitar, it is sent back to us here at PRS to be stained, assembled, and thoroughly tested.
