PRS 2014 Year In Review!
Posted Dec 19, 2014
2014 was a busy year for us here at PRS Guitars! We jam packed the year with excitiing product launches and new offerings. Join us for this look back at our product releases over this past year.
SE Guitars & Basses
We added a Floyd Rose 1000 series tremolo to our popular SE Custom 24 to create the SE “Floyd” Custom 24. The wide thin maple neck pairs nicely with our SE HFS Treble and Vintage Bass pickups, and people were digging the two finishes we offered: Tobacco Sunburst and Scarlet Red.

In 2014, for the first time ever, we introduced SE Basses. The SE Kestrel is a traditional singlecoil bass with an alder and maple/walnut neck-through body for plenty of sustain and evenly balanced tone. The Kestrel is instantly comfortable with ultra-punchy, clear, fat tone. You can check out the SE Kestrel specs and videos HERE.
The SE Kingfisher is a modern bass with old school character, huge low end punch, and plenty of top end clarity. We think the SE Kingfisher has a beautifully alive tone that will inspire you to dig in and get your groove on. You can check out the SE Kingfisher specs and videos here.
Mahogany offers a traditional look and feel to an acoustic guitar - so we added it to our SE Acoustic lineup! The SE A10E boasts an all-mahogany body that plays great on stage and in the studio. The mahogany provides a controlled punch and focused midrange making it capable of handling aggressive attack and laid back rhythm playing.
S2 Series
In July of 2014, we introduced the now-popular S2 Semi-Hollows. The Singlecut, Custom 22, and Mira all got the sweet semi-hollow treatment. The vibe and tone that the semi-hollow adds catches the ears and the eyes no matter where you are playing. Listen here (YouTube video).
The first PRS Standard, introduced in 1987, evolved from Paul Reed Smith’s Pre-Factory all-mahogany instruments. For 2014, we reimagined these for the S2 Series. These guitars feature the subtle aesthetic of mahogany and pickguard-mounted electronics for a vintage vibe with modern versatility and playability that is perfect for the gigging musician.
All three models have solid mahogany bodies, set mahogany necks, versatile electronics, and tried-and-true PRS quality. The warm and woody tone of the mahogany provides the S2 Standard models with a strong fundamental that plays well plugged straight into an amp or run through a modern pedalboard setup.
Core Guitars
Floyd Rose bridges are a popular request for our guitars. We are pleased to now offer our flagship Custom 24 model with a Floyd Rose Tremolo system. The “Floyd” Custom 24 comes with a rock maple neck and uncovered \m/ Treble and Bass pickups. It rocks.
We added another Piezo equipped guitar to our core lineup with the P24 Trem. The P24 is a piezo-equipped guitar that effortlessly achieves classic humbucker tones and authentic acoustic sounds in one instrument. Give it a listen here (YouTube link)
Private Stock Instruments
We diversified our popular Private Stock program by adding a few beautiful models to the lineup. Like every Private Stock guitar we build, each model is built with unparalleled attention to detail, using the highest quality materials PRS offers.

Amplifiers
After the large success of our Archon amplifier release in 2013, we designed two more versions of the Archon for 2014. The 50-watt Archon Head and combo and 25-watt Archon combo are smaller output amplifiers but keep the original Archon’s lush gain and remarkable clean channels. Check them out and see the beautiful versatility these amps offer for a multitude of genres: click here (YouTube link).
Our amp department offered even more in 2014 with these cool limited runs.
Limited Runs
Of course we can’t forget the Tree Of Life Acoustic we designed in 2014 as a tribute to the medical profession and specifically to honor the dedication of the staff at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
We hope you have enjoyed 2014 as much as we have here at PRS Guitars. We have a feeling 2015 is going to be even better. If you want to learn more about our new 2015 models and celebrate our 30th Anniversary with us, click here.
