Sebastian Gonzalez - Return to Dust

Sebastian Gonzalez is co-guitarist in the Los Angeles-based alternative rock quartet Return To Dust. Growing up within a musical family in West Covina, California, Sebastian was exposed to rock at an early age. Listening to artists such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy Osbourne, Racer X, Linkin Park, and Metallica, he picked up an acoustic guitar at age ten. Eventually transitioning to the electric, Sebastian found inspiration in the virtuosic playing of Paul Gilbert and Dimebag Darrell. Eventually a chance meeting would find Sebastian joining Return To Dust, at just sixteen. From there the band's signature style slowly, but surely took shape. Return To Dust’s music fuses powerful harmonies, fuzz-laden riffs, and seismic grooves, fueled by the raw energy of four Gen Z friends jamming in a garage.

PRS: When and where did you initially encounter PRS, and do you remember the first time you played one of our guitars?

Sebastian: Growing up I’d always heard of them but the first time I encountered a PRS was about a year ago at the Guitar Center in Hollywood. I remember I saw this beautiful brown/tan Custom 24 and I picked it up, plugged it in, and didn’t get up for about 3 hours because I didn’t want to leave without that guitar.

PRS: What do you love the most about your PRS guitars?

Sebastian: I have the Dustie Waring DW CE 24 "Floyd" in matte black and I’ll say it’s perfect for me and the band. The neck is a lot thinner than a normal PRS which I love because it’s easy to move up and down the neck for me. Another thing is with the matte black, if you scratch your pick on it enough it will turn to a glossier look which is something I love a lot. Also, I’ve noticed it’s got a lot more beef and bass in its tone than a normal PRS would have which is amazing.

PRS: What are Return to Dust’s plans looking towards 2025?

Sebastian: We are definitely going to tour as much as possible, so we got some lined up next year, plus we have so much music in our back pocket so we’re going to start dropping songs here and there. We might just put a whole album out, I’m not sure but next year will be a big year.

PRS: Is there a story behind how you came to join the band?

Sebastian: Yes! I was on a walk with my mom one random night, when we heard the guys jamming our song ‘Bad News.’ I had just turned 16, so I was extremely nervous and shy to talk to them. We walked up to their garage door and knocked, and my mom was telling them how I play guitar and pretty much setting up the whole thing. After that I kept going to their house and eventually, I’m in the band!

PRS: What other artists are you listening to the most in your down time these days?

Sebastian: I’m a big heavy metal guy so I’m listening to Pantera, Metallica, White Zombie, Racer X, and many many more different bands all the time. But, as of recently I’ve been listening to so much rap music like 2Pac, OutKast, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and many more.

PRS: Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

Sebastian: I’m a MASSIVE Michael Jackson fan and when I was about 8 years old, I learned how to dance like him by watching his live videos and I’ll say I got pretty good. I actually performed in my school's talent show twice doing this Michael Jackson dance I made and got second place both times sadly.
