La Familia Santana: San Francisco Honors The Santana Family With Mural
Posted Nov 03, 2021
Last Friday, San Francisco’s mayor London Breed and other public officials were joined by Carlos Santana and other members of the Santana family. The occasion was the dedication of a grand outdoor mural in honor of La Familia Santana. The mural was in honor of Jorge Santana who communicated his mural design vision to Randolph Bowes, Mission Art 415. Mission Art 415, Dr. Annie Rodriguez and Dr. Bernardo D. Gonzalez III, the founder of Latin Rock Inc. worked on the mural project in Jorge Santana's honor.
Jorge was himself an accomplished musician, primarily known as the frontman of the seminal San Francisco Latin rock band, Malo. His nephew Salvador (Carlos’s son) has become a well-known keyboardist in his own right. The mural is located at the 24th
street BART station plaza in the famed Mission District where the Santana brothers were raised after immigrating from Mexico. The mural was designed by Jorge Santana & Randolph Bowes, painted by Mark Bode, and overseen by La Familia Santana Mural Project Team; Dr. Annie Rodriguez, Dr. Bernardo D. Gonzalez III and Mission Art 415.
